Randi's Bio
For more than 25 years, Randi
Killian has been helping companies change, enhance and protect their brands
by growing their market positions, reinventing themselves, launching new
products and reinforcing their overall images -- all for maximum impact in the
marketplace. Since 1993, when she created Randi B. Enterprises, she has given her clients a strategic
approach to marketing, issues management, crisis communications, branding, web
strategies and media relations.
As director of communications for the Chicago-area American
Red Cross from 1989 to 1993, Randi headed up a very aggressive media
relations campaign, emphasizing a one-voice approach. The result: Extremely positive press coverage on topics
ranging from local, national and international disasters, the Gulf War, fund
raising, child abuse, safety and health education - in over 7,000 interviews
with local and national media. She was also the organization’s official representative at public hearings and
town meetings. As well, Randi created an award-winning magazine with a circulation of over 30,000.
This publication served as a sophisticated forum about Red Cross activities and issues for the donor population
A crisis communications specialist, Randi worked for the public relations firm of
Hill & Knowlton in Chicago from 1986 to 1989. While at H & K, she
provided counsel to clients such as Brunswick, Centel Corporation, Kraft, and
Mazda. In 1988, she served as acting PR Director and chief spokesperson for USG Corporation during its successful fight
against an unwanted takeover. USG’s victory came, in a large part, from the strategic approach of its media
campaign.
From 1981 to 1986, Randi had her own public relations firm
in Chicago, Denver and Milwaukee. Her clients included the
Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Colorado, Mountain Bell, Wisconsin
Small Business Development Center and USG.
As an accomplished spokesperson, Randi has given more than
11,000 media interviews including CNN, The Today Show, Chicago
Tonight, Wall Street Journal, New York Times. A dynamic speaker,
she has presented hundreds of seminars and speeches on topics
including client service, creative thinking, customer service,
marketing trends, media relations, presentations and sales
training. She uses humor to punctuate her points.
From 1996 to 2001, Randi was a contributing editor for Roundel,
the magazine of the BMW Car Club of America with a circulation
of over 70,000. Her bi-monthly column presented her views
on business and life while discussing men, women, cars and
other obsessions. She also has been a marketing columnist
for The Business Ledger, a bi-weekly business publication,
and Enterprising Women magazine.
Randi has held a variety of leadership positions with the Chicago Area Chapter of the National Association of Women Business
Owners . She was honored as the 1998 – 99 Member of
the Year for her work in developing and implementing a new program for
corporate partners. She also is active in The Network of Women Entrepreneurs, Chicagoland Chamber of
Commerce, Greater O’Hare Association and the North Shore Professional
Women’s Association where she serves as Director of Programs.
Randi works with companies in three ways – larger, established
organizations benefit from highly-individualized consulting where
outcomes are accomplished based on a company’s overall business goals; emerging businesses benefit from one-on-one
coaching that teach business owners what is needed to make enough noise to
be heard above the competition; leadership teams and organizations
benefit from entertaining and informative seminars, speaking programs and
webinars.
When it comes to communications, Randi’s philosophy
is very clear: it’s not only what you say . . . but how you say it . . . and
when . . . and where . . . and to whom.
